Bantam Hockey

The team was in for their weekly session.

Goals of today were to teach movements like the clean, dumbbell and kettlebell swing, box jump with quality landing and show how all the movements are similar in nature. The guys did really well on all of this tonight.

We went from the kettlebell to the clean to the box jump so they could feel the progression and how they tie together.

Also worked on part of the Turkish get up, pressing safely over head and how active glutes and core stability during this movement are strong and safe.

Then finished with a controlled circuit of:

Wall ball in a split stance + kettlebell swing + push press with dumbbells focusing on quickness in the press and control of dumbbell while overhead.

Day off - USING HRV - First Beat and Ithlete (IPHONE APP)

Have been using HRV software over the years from Polar, FirstBeat and for me personally they have always been quite accurate relative to how I feel.

I have been trying a new version called Ithlete which is and itouch or iPhone app.

Many if the tests are done either during sleep or upon waking.

FirstBeat looks at sleep.

Polar a version of the Rusko test with combination lying and standing.

Ithlete looks at approximately 1 min standing test upon waking (it is actually 8 full breaths by following a controlled breathing pattern). There research shows that the lying portion of HRV testing isn't as accurate for people with resting heart rate below 50.

Below is a picture of my training week.

Strength Monday

Intervals Tuesday

Strength Wednesday

Intervals Thursday

Ithlete showing orange today marks an easier training day or recovery in full.

I am going to Spiro then stretch today.

Will have to see how this plays out over time. Will keep everyone up to date.

Bantam hockey team

After a few weeks off and some wins the boys were back for their weekly gym session.

Did some band training to work on split squat stability and technique and continue their awareness of how important the core is when hands are overhead.

Ryan returned with some sweet flow!

Lots of lateral agility then finished with some partner wall ball + crab crawl / broad jump action.

Lots of smiles tonight so think the guys had fun.
